Litsea cubeba (scientific name: Litsea cubeba), also known as mountain pepper, is a plant of the genus Litsea in the Lauraceae family, native to southern China and Southeast Asia. Its fruits, leaves and roots all contain high-value active ingredients, but industrial extraction is mainly concentrated on the fruits. The core ingredients include:
• Volatile oil (essential oil): accounting for 8-15%, the core ingredient is citral (Neral + Geranial, accounting for 70-85% of the total volatile oil), which gives a strong lemon aroma.
• Monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes:
• Limonene (5-10%): Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.
• Eucalyptus (1,8-Cineole) (3-8%): Respiratory soothing effect.
• Polyphenol compounds: such as flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol), antioxidant and antibacterial synergistic synergy.
• Alkaloids and lignans: such as isoquinoline alkaloids, which have potential anti-tumor activity.
