Pterostilbene is a natural diphenylethylene compound with a chemical formula of C16H16O3, a molecular weight of 256.30, and a CAS number of 537-42-8. It was first discovered in plants of the genus Dalbergia (such as rosewood and rosewood), and was later detected in plants such as blueberries, grapes, and strawberries. As a methylated derivative of resveratrol, pterostilbene has stronger fat solubility and stability due to the replacement of hydroxyl groups by methoxy groups. Its bioavailability is four times that of resveratrol, and its half-life in the body is as long as 105 minutes.

1. Antioxidant and anti-aging
• Free radical scavenging: The oxygen free radical absorption capacity (ORAC value) of pterostilbene far exceeds that of vitamin C, E and resveratrol. It activates the Nrf2 pathway to enhance the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as SOD and glutathione, and reduce mitochondrial oxidative stress.
• Anti-photoaging: Inhibits UVB-induced DNA damage. A cream containing 0.4% pterostilbene can provide a sunscreen effect of SPF 6.2.
2. Whitening and freckle removal
• Melanin inhibition: By downregulating the α-MSH signaling pathway and tyrosinase activity, melanin production is blocked, and the effect is better than glabridin.
• Freckle removal experiment: Continuous use at a concentration of 0.55 μg/ml for 9 days can eliminate black spots.
3. Anti-inflammatory and immune regulation
• Inflammation inhibition: Targeting the NF-κB pathway, reducing the release of pro-inflammatory factors such as TNF-α and IL-6, and reducing the level of C-reactive protein (CRP).
• Immunity enhancement: Activate macrophages and NK cells to enhance antiviral ability.
4. Metabolism and cardiovascular protection
• Blood sugar regulation: Inhibit glucose-6-phosphatase activity and reduce postprandial blood sugar.
• Blood lipid regulation: Reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation, increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and improve the risk of atherosclerosis.
5. Anti-cancer potential
• Cell apoptosis induction: Inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells such as colon cancer and breast cancer, and reduce the incidence of tumors.
1. Medicine and health products
• Diabetes management: Compound capsules (400 mg/day) are as effective as metformin in reducing glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c).
• Tumor adjuvant therapy: AKBA inhibits cancer cell metastasis and relieves chemotherapy side effects.
2. Cosmetics and daily chemicals
• Anti-aging and whitening: Estee Lauder, POLA and other brands use it to resist photoaging and repair UV damage.
• Sunscreen and freckle removal: Adding 0.1%-0.5% to the formula can synergistically enhance the SPF value and freckle effect.
3. Food industry
• Functional beverages: Add to sports drinks to enhance antioxidant and anti-fatigue effects.
• Natural preservatives: Inhibit Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus and extend the shelf life of food.
