Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a conjugated isomer of linoleic acid (ω-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid) with a molecular formula of C18H32O2. The position and configuration of its double bond determine the activity of different isomers. The main active forms are c9, t11 (rumenic acid) and t10, c12. The former is mostly found in natural foods, while the latter is commonly found in supplements. CLA has unique antioxidant stability due to its conjugated double bond structure (-C=C-C=C-). It is a colorless to light yellow oil in liquid state. |
