Natural astaxanthin: a potent ketocarotenoid with a chemical formula of C40H52O4, a molecular weight of 596.86, and a CAS number of 472-61-7. Its structure contains two hydroxyl groups and a ketone group, giving it a super antioxidant capacity (the ability to scavenge free radicals is 550 times that of vitamin E and 10 times that of β-carotene).
